Paying final respects to formerly living websites

8chan was destroyed by outsiders and Fred's sudden Christianity (probably Catholicism's fault again), although it had been declining on the management and software side for a long time.
8kun is a slow loading boomerhole with cringe signatures.
I don't really understand evangelized people like converts and the like. If you grew up with religion, you'd know it really changes nothing in your life for the most part. But these savages insist they have been saved or something, when we are all trapped here.

I take the implication being that you grew up Christian. There are a lot of people who didn't and were raised by Boomer parents with zero morality who only remained on this side of good and evil because they were too afraid of legal consequences. Going from some vague morally ambiguity that is only shaped by jewish television morality and what you can get away with into a life with absolutes is a lot different.

If I had to choose between having a neighbor who only left me be because they don't think they can get away with taking liberties and a neighbor that behaves like a good person because if he doesn't space daddy is going to wreck his shit I would chose the christian. I don't know I just crawled out of bed so I am not explaining it that well. 8chan died because of moderation being autists and encouraging only faggots to post. It was really just a few fucking faggots going out of their way to fuck shit up but they never left. Look at Gahoolechan or Julay and you can see the same obnoxious third world shitters spamming the catalogs with the same tied images and videos and throwing massive shitfits because people don't like what they like.

I legitimately hate autists having to mod that 8chan shithole for so long. They contribute zero to any discussion. They are vain and egotistical despite they very obvious social and intellectual limitations. They only thing they are good at is doing the reposting same thing over and over again long past the point of being funny and they get enraged when you don't think it is funny since they got a positive response to it one time five years ago.

Tinychan is very bad, lots of mean people there. dis.4ct has the best/most active prog, goatfinger.ga used the best lounge board (tinychan is much less active and no good for posting).

I'm still not over the demise of LiveLeak. All those videos, cornerstones of internet culture, like tears in the rain.

Shut off like a lightswitch, no warning or chance for backup, because the nutsos who ran it thought they could make more out of whatever the fuck "item fix" is supposed to be.

14 Name: VIPPER 2021-12-05 23:59
Apparently ROTBRC Imageboards, a part of what was once iichan/wakachan, is still online (though I would not call it alive). They even added a "V-Tubers & Hololivers" board sometime presumably recently!
To date, that board has received exactly zero (0) posts.

It's a sad fate.

I don't miss /i/, but I miss the conditions that allowed it to exist. Once people moved from small websites to social media behemoths, raids and hacking became inviable (at least for your average /b/tard) as these huge sites had rock-hard security. This centralization also caused many of the problems we see on the internet today.

That said, I do wish /i/ would have evolved from EPIQ RADEZ WE R LEJIN to some place to brainstorm ideas for psyops. Or a place to study the ways that people on social media influence the public (especially among "nerd" hobbies) and develop ways to counter them. I bet we'd have avoided or mitigated most of the political nonsense from the early-mid 2010s. Too bad all the people with social-engineering skills sold out to the system and claim they grew up when you ask them why.

None of this would have happened if people in the early 90's as home computing was taking off had simply adopted my Xanadu® model of hypertext instead of Doug Englebart's version on the 'world wide web', links and especially context! would be preserved.

Why do anons have to be such assholes all the time? Can't they have a modicum of friendliness? I suspect that a lot of teenagers or something are being edgy posts or asshole posters, maybe that is part of it.

Yeah, fuck them for shutting LiveLeak off like that.

LiveLeak, probably a very incomplete archive:
https://archive.org/details/archiveteam_liveleak

Use Linux to extract the files, or I think Linux would work best for me to extract the files.

*edgy posters

Also, I wish that Yahoo Answers was alive for one or more months after its scheduled death date. Answers.yahoo.com had a one-month death notice (IIRC), I wish it was two or more months of notice.

Anyone remember being on or posting to 4chan /rs/? I think it was called "Rapid share" and it was alive in the early 2010s. I kinda remember being there, but not really.

What did you find in /rs/? Do you have any files that you know to have came from there? I wonder what the max filesize was, or like, did it allow MP4 file uploads and stuff. I think I might have downloaded some files from /rs/ years ago, but my record keeping back them was not great.

More info on /rs/:
https://www.lurkmore.com/view//rs/

Submitted in October 2014 ( https://www.lurkmore.com/w/index.php?title=%2Frs%2F&type=revision&diff=23603&oldid=17884 ):
"Unfortunately, that faggot moot took /rs/ down and all of that interesting data is now gone, forever."
32 Name: VIPPER 2022-02-09 20:14
*back then was not great

Apparently /rs/ was a board which mirrored RapidShare.com files: "/rs/ was a board on 4chan that displayed all of the filesharing downloads that were posted on any thread on 4chan. The archive was never reset and had many years of interesting information, even if many of the downloads were dead due to the take down of MegaUpload and files expiring on RapidShare." (see the above link)

I wonder if there is a screenshot of /rs/ somewhere.

I gots plenty of old low-res hentae mango offa /rs/, I've still got some on various old hard disks and their backups. It was the main lamer-oriented download aggregator that wasn't a sodding webforum with minimum post counts and shit like this.

More than 300,000 My Little Pony images were deleted, with zero notice, by the dickhead who ran http://pbooru.com

Luckily there was an archive of the image files:

Cool, did you also record the URLs that you downloaded them from? In the past I downloaded a significant amount of YouTube videos but didn't record the URLs which they came from. I regret that. I thought maybe you might have saved the links too (something I would have done if I had better record keeping back then).

Also, do you have the English version of "The Light of Tsukimi Manor"? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I take this to mean a forum where you could only post a small amount of stuff.

Fucking iPhone piece of shit. I somehow swiped backwards and resubmitted the form. It was all glitchy too so I had to restart Safari <— explanation for the above double post.

Also "minimum post counts" (see above) could also mean: you have to post a certain number of posts before you are allowed to upload files.

I recorded nothing except .zips on my hentae directory. Minimum post counts was a thing that webforums did to force people to post more in order to be able to click on links; that's retarded enough that younger people wouldn't know about it.
39 Name: VIPPER 2022-02-11 15:02
>>31-32 Yes, it was just all the links to filesharing platforms that had been posted on any board, not actual file uploading, so there were all kinds of things you could search for. It wasn't like the other boards with threads and posts, it was a list of links to like Rapidshare, MegaUpload, 4Shared, Mediafire, etc. and a search bar.

It was one of a handful of sources I had bookmarked for file hunting. I'd mostly be looking for albums back then, but 4Chan users have crap taste in music, so it wasn't often I actually found what I was looking for. I think I downloaded some DJ Sharpnel. I also think I remember downloading the first hentai manga I ever read from there, “Black Cat Boogaloo”, and a huge archive of Touhou fanart. Megaupload and Rapidshare both went down, so most of the links were dead on /rs/. Oh, and I think there were archives of camwhore pics that had been shared, like Cracky-Chan and all the rest. I found one of a certain cutie

To combat leeching, some file sharing forums required users to post, create threads and take part in the community for a bit before they were allowed access to links people had shared. My friend let me use his warezBB account so I didn't have to do that :3 It was quite good for music cracked software sometimes, don't think it's around anymore

In 2021 I saw this hacking-or-whatever-based forums where you had to make an account in order to see the links. That was kinda lame. Once I did make an account the link I wanted to see was a dead link anyways :[

Interesting. This posts sheds some light on it.
